Chhapaak box office collection day 3: After a hiatus of almost 2 years, Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone is back on the silver screens with a hard-hitting film titled Chhapaak. Inspired by the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal, Chhapaak released amid high expectations but it is struggling to translate it into box office success.
Released on January 10, 2020, Chhapaak has impressed the film critics but the mania around the film is comparatively lesser than Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol’s film Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero, which had a theatrical release on the same day.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh has shared that Chhapaak has seen a rise in day-wise collections but the total remains quite low. It earned Rs 4.77 crore on Friday, Rs 6.90 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.35 crore on Sunday, collecting a total collection of Rs 19.02 crore.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol, on the other hand, has packed a grand total of Rs 61.75 crore. The film collected Rs 15.10 crore on day 1, Rs 20.57 crore on day 2 and Rs 26.08 crore on day 3. Looking at the box office trends, it is evident that Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero is leading the race against Chhapaak. To retain a longer run at the cinema screens, the film will have to show growth over weekdays.
Chhapaak is filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s next venture after Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi. When compared Chhapaak and Raazi, the former is moving at a snail’s pace. While Raazi earned Rs 32.94 crore on its first weekend, Chhapaak has only been able to earn Rs 19.02 crore.
Alongside Deepika Padukone, Chhapaak also stars Vikrant Massey in a key role.
