Another Friday is around the corner and we have a new film waiting to release on the 70mm screen. Marking a shift from conventional and mainstream films, this week’s release Laal Kaptaan is dark, intense, gritty revengeful drama that promises to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats.

Saif Ali Khan, who recently won critical acclaim for his performance in Sacred Games as an earnest police officer Sartaj Singh, will be seen bringing out his wild, raw and devil side stepping into the shoes of Naga Sadhu, a first for him.

Ahead of the film release, the makers of the film have given their best to raise excitement around the film release with intriguing trailers, but alas, the buzz around Laal Kaptaan is quite low. While the genre and theme of Laal Kaptaan may appeal to a specific audience, it lacks the attention which mainstream releases garner. It is estimated that the film might do a business of Rs 1-2 crore on its opening day and witness a further growth only on the basis of strong word of mouth.

The War mania that has gripped the fandom and cinema screens is also far from slowing down anytime soon. It is also this craze around the Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer that impacted the biz. of The Sky Is Pink starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim and Rohit Saraf, which released in its subsequent week, at the ticket counters. While War has collected a total collection of Rs 276.40 crore, The Sky Is Pink has consolidated with a biz. of Rs 10 crore.

Going by the popular mood, audiences are keen to catch the Diwali releases of this year, i.e Housefull 4 starring Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde, Saand Ki Aankh starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar as well as Made In China starring Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy.

Therefore, Laal Kaptaan is less likely to make it to the audience’s weekend plans. Releasing on October 18, Laal Kaptaan has been directed by Navdeep Singh and also stars Manav Vij, Deepak Dobriyal, Zoya Hussain and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles.
