The much-anticipated trailer of Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad has finally dropped and it is as hard-hitting as its title. The trailer shows how for ages, women have been facing patriarchy, domestic violence, physical and mental harassment and yet the society tells them to adjust, even if it costs their lives.
The trailer shows how Taapsee, who is apparently in a happy marriage, becomes a different person after her husband slaps her at a party. Unlike several other women, Taapsee refuses to sit quietly and compromise just for the sake of saving her marriage and instead decided to take legal action against her husband for raising his hand on her. She files a petition in the court and faces a lot of criticism as expected.
However, in the trailer, we see how Taapsee refuses to give up and sticks to her stand saying that it is just not about one slap, but how she sees things differently after he raised his hand on her and now, she no longer loves him.
There are little moments in the trailer which leave such a powerful impact that one is forced to think hard about where is this society heading and are we or our close ones living in a dilemma that things are fine when they actually are not? Is it time that we as women raise our voices and punish the culprits who think hitting their wives or any woman is ok and things eventually get fine?
Coming from a brilliant director like Anubhav Sinha, Thappad will surely leave a heavy impact on you and the powerful narrative, intriguing storytelling, and Taapsee’s chilling performance surely makes this film a must-watch.
Helmed Anubhav Sinha, who has previously directed movies like Article 15 and Mulk, Thappad has been backed by Bhushan Kumar. The film also stars Dia Mirza, Manav Kaul, Ram Kapoor, and Ratna Pathak Shah in key roles.
Thappad is slated to hit the big screen on February 28 this year.
