The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted bail to former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand in the case of rape, wrongful confinement, stalking and criminal intimidation filed by a law student. The student had said in her complaint that she was forced into sexual intercourse by the godman.

The student said Chinmayanand forced women students of the college run by his trust and sexually harass them. The student also belonged to the same college and was a student of law. Chinmayanand was arrested in September 2019 and was charged of misusing his position in the trust.

The case came to public attention when the 23-year-old law student posted a video on Facebook that went viral. The video, however, did not name the politician. The student was also arrested for trying to extort Rs 5 crore from the godman. He filed a case with the police that she was trying to extort money and her friends were also threatening him over what he said was a false video.
