In a cowardly attack on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students by some 70 to 100 masked assailants on Sunday evening, many students got injured including JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh received serious injuries. Reports said that the scuffle was between ABVP and Left Party students over the fresh registration process for the hostel. Some unidentified assailants had entered the university campus and attacked the students, said Delhi Police spokesperson MS Randhawa.
Today, narrating the story of the attack, JNU student’s leader Aishe Ghosh leveled allegations against RSS and ABVP. She said it was an organized attack by goons of the saffron front who have been promoting violence in the University campus from the past 4-5 days.
Miss Ghosh was taken to the Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a masked mob entered the JNU and attacked then and professors with sticks and rods.
Condemning the attack, JNU students union leader demanded immediate removal of the JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar.
Talking to the media, JNUSU leader asserted that every iron rod used against the students in the attack will be given answered by debates and discussions. JNU will uphold its democratic culture, ANI quoted Ghosh.
Reacting to the saddening attack, the Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal said Universities are meant for education and should never be made a political base. Action will be taken against those who will be found guilty. Will never let universities become center for politics.
“This Vice-Chancellor is a cowardly Vice-Chancellor who introduces illegal policies through the backdoor, runs away from the questions of students or teachers and then manufactures a situation to demonize JNU,” said a statement from JNUSU.
