Minutes after a Delhi Court pronounced the death date and issued the warrent for hangings of all 4 convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya rape and murder case, Delhi’s Tihar Jail authorities wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut prison asking for a hangman. The Delhi court today directed to hang Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Sharma and Pawan Gupta on January 22, 2020 at 7 in the morning.

Reports quoted Pawan Jallad, a third-generation executioner at the Meerut Jail, stating he is all set to hang the rapists.

Pawan had expressed his desire earlier also. At that time, he had said if the authorities would direct him to hang all 4 rapists then he would be happy to do so. He asserted that such hanging will set an example for others and help to prevent crimes against women.

Desribing the procedures, he added, the rope and the noose will be made then tested by lifting equal measure of weight (Sand bags) as the convict. The convicts will be hanged till they don’t die and doctors confirm it.
