World Champion and Olympian Mary Kom signed the inaugural draft for Big Bout League (BBL) on Monday. She became the first female boxer to sign a draft for the world’s one of the prestigious and richest boxing league. Nikhat Zareen, Manoj Kumar, Sonia Lather, Amit Panghal and many other big names who will be participating in the Big Bout League. The draft process of the BBL will be held at Hyatt Manesar in Gurugram on Tuesday, November 19.
The rules for the upcoming boxing league, names of the players who will be participating and a system for the draft process have been set by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and Big Bout League members committee. The joint meeting was chaired by Mr. Hemant Kalita, Chairman, the technical committee with commercial partners of Big Bout League – Emerging Sports and Media Technologies (ESM) with six other BFI officials in New Delhi.
Various historic decisions were taken including the display of scorecards after every round. Now scores will be displayed after every round in each bout which was globally displayed after all three rounds in one bout. The league will also host national & international men and women, under one banner playing in a team format for respective franchises.
Speaking on the completion of a conclusive meeting, Mr. Hemant Kalita resonated, “It was a very constructive meeting with the Big Bout officials and we have zeroed upon few landmark decisions that will help the sport to grow. The league will present innovations and a revolutionized new age Boxing with that of rest of the world”.
With an aim to package a sporting property into a live televised property conforming to Olympic style rules, the agenda of the meeting subsisted to make the league innovative and progressive. The meeting discussed various innovations, rules, technical aspects and anti-doping strategies that will be implemented in the league conforming to that of AIBA. Mr. Hemanta Kalita, Mr Surender Shandil, Mr. Rajan Sharma, Mr. R Rajendran, and Ms. Priti Baria were also present representing BFI.
Big Bout League is the first-ever Boxing league in India that will be aired LIVE on Indian television along with 60+ other countries making it the largest & widest LIVE sporting event in the world. The league will be played in a round-robin format with six franchisees.
