India vs Bangladesh Ist Test Day 2 at Indore: India are in a strong position in the ongoing first Test of the two-match series with taking a lead of 343 runs. The second day ‘s play ended up with Ravindra Jadeja scoring 60* and Umesh Yadav 25*. India have scored 493 for the loss of six wickets.
It was the big day for India opener Mayank Agarwal as he scored his second Test double-hundred. It came just weeks after the opener slammed his first red-ball ton against South Africa. His 243 put India in the driver’s seat at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.
On Friday, Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara started India’s innings from 86. Both the batsmen scored a 91-run partnership and gave a decent start to India on the second day’s play. Pujara lost his wicket for 54 when the score was 105. Skipper Virat Kohli gave away his wicket without troubling the scorer.
After that, Ajinkya Rahane joined Agarwal and both scored a brilliant partnership of 190. Though Rahane could not convert his fifty in the century, he played a superb knock of 86. Ravindra Jadeja also scored 60 off just 76 balls. Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed for 12.
Almost seven overs before the second day’s play ended, the Karnataka-born cricketer lost his wicket for 243. For Bangladesh, Abu Jayed claimed four wickets while Ebadat Hossain and Mehidy Hasan picked up one each wicket. Earlier on Thursday, Indian bowlers proved fatal for the visitors. Mohammed Shami was the most impressive bowler, dismissing three wickets.
Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two each wicket. Mushfiqur Rahim was the leading run-scorer with just 43 runs. Skipper Mominul Haque scored 37, Liton Das 21, Jayed unbeaten seven, Shadman Islam six, Imrul Kayes six and Ebadat two.
Meanwhile, after Indore match, both the teams are set to play their first-ever day-night Test match in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will witness the match.
