India off-spinner R Ashwin became the 3rd Indian bowler to pick 250 wickets in Test cricket. Ashwin removed Bangladesh left-hander Mominul Haque for 37 in the first Test against Bangladesh in Indore. The Tamil Nadu spinner also became the third-fastest Indian bowler to take 250 wickets in Test at home after Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.
Former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble is at the top of the list with 350 wickets on Indian soil while Harbhajan Singh picked 265 wickets at home. Ashwin picked his 250th wicket in his 42nd match at home. He has now become the joint-fastest bowler with Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan. Anil Kumble took 43 matches to reach the feat.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Moninul Haque won the toss and opted to bat first in his first match as the Test captain. The decision backfired the visitors as they lost 2 wickets early of their innings as they were reeling at 12/2 after 7 overs. Both Bangladeshi openers Imrul Kayes and Shadman Islam were removed for 6 runs each.
Umesh Yadav took the first wicket for India while Ishant Sharma struck Bangladesh six-ball later. In the 18th over, Mohammed Shami removed Mohammad Mithun (12) to reduce Bangladesh to 31/3.
This is Bangladesh’s first Test in the World Test championship while India has already bagged 240 points from 5 games.
