After the historic triumph in India vs New Zealand T20I series with 5-0, the player who can be seen with uncontainable pride is KL Rahul. The top-order batsman had a defining series with the bat, the wicket-keeping gloves and then as the captain. He led India in the last match of the T20I series on Sunday after the captain Rohit Sharma got injured while batting. However, the batsman is keen to face more challenges as he gets the opportunities. He said that it was a special feeling, leading your country is always the second dream – the first one is, of course, to play for your country.
Rahul added that it was unfortunate what happened to Rohit. Every day he wakes up, every day he is thrown a new responsibility. He is very grateful and he is loving the challenges being thrown at him. It was great to see how they responded without their main leaders – Rohit and Virat. The occasional wicket-keeper has always proved himself whenever given the opportunities and that’s why the team management considers him as one of the youngest evolving players in the team.
Also in the fourth T20I, when the team needed a hitman like Rohit Sharma who was not playing in the match, KL Rahul played a smashing innings in the super over and hit 6 and 4 in first two balls to lead India towards victory with 4-0.
According to the Rahul, Team India has been consistent in all the formats in the recent past because of the ways of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room. He said when there are players like Virat and Rohit in the dressing room, you don’t need to look too far for inspiration. Jasprit, too, is an inspiration to the guys in the dressing room due to his consistency and his performances.
After winning the T20I series, Team India is set to face the Black Caps on the field of ODI series starting from February 5 to February 11, 2020, with the first match in Hamilton.
