At Thiruvanthanapuram’s Greenfield Stadium, India lost the 2nd T20I against West Indies by 8 wickets on Sunday. The Windies batsmen were dealing in sixes and trying to hit every ball out of the park, as result visitors chased the target with 9 balls to spare. With this victory, West Indies has leveled the 3-match series 1-1 and the series decider will now be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Top-order batsmen Lendl Simmons slammed 67 runs off 45 balls laced with 4 boundaries and 4 sixers was awarded Man Of The Match title for his heroic performance. Not just Simmons, Evin Lewis too impressed with his bat and hammered 40 runs off 35 balls studded with 3 fours and 3 sixes.
In West Indies’ win, Shimron Hetmyer (23) and Nicholas Pooran (38) also contributed to clinch the victory. It won’t be wrong to say that it was completely West Indies’ day as they first won the toss and then the match. Skipper Kieron Pollard had elected to bowl first as he knew that India is stronger in chase compared to defend the total. As he had planned his bowlers restricted India for a respectable total of 170 runs which they chased in 18.3 overs.
For India, only Shivam Dube managed to show some good hands as he scored his maiden half-century off only 30 balls. He hit 3 boundaries and 4 sixes in his quick inning and boosted India’s scored card when the team had lost opener KL Rahul early for only 11 runs. Dube then walked-in at number 3 position which is usually held by skipper Virat Kohli. Apart from them, Rohit Sharma (15), Virat Kohli (19), Rishabh Pant (33), Shreyas Iyer (10), Ravindra Jadeja (9), Washington Sundar (0) and Deepak Chahar (1) failed to set any big partnership. However, Team India managed to post 170 runs but failed to defend it.
