Rohit Sharma named La Liga’s first non-footballer brand ambassador: Rohit Sharma has proved that he is certainly one of the best openers in modern-day cricket. He can be seen playing match-winning knocks for his team. Keeping in view his consistent performance, La Liga has appointed him as the brand ambassador in India. The announcement was made by none other than Sharma on Thursday, a day after India won T20I series 2-1 against West Indies.
La Liga, the Spanish league, is famous, having millions of fans across the world particularly in India. Many Indians support Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two biggest clubs of the league system. In the last several years, La Liga was mulling to build a brand in the country.
In a tweet, Sharma said that he was excited and humbled to announce his partnership with La Liga. The cricketer said that the football always held a special place in his heart and naming him the brand ambassador, was so special for him.
La Liga’s Managing Director, Jose Antonio Cachaza, said that the league came to India in 2017 and in a couple of years, they took several initiatives to understand the pulse of the people. Praising Sharma, Cachaza said that he was the most renowned cricketer in India and also La Liga’s fan. With the announcement, the 32-year-old Mumbai cricketer has become La Liga’s first non-footballer brand ambassador.
Meanwhile, in the current La Liga, Lionel Messi-led Barcelona is leading the points table, winning 11 out of 15 games. The team lost just three matches and one ended in a draw. While Real Madrid is at the second spot, claiming victories in 10 games out of 15.
Iker Casillas-led team lost only one match and four games ended in a draw. The season has been tremendous for Messi who broke rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of most hat-tricks in the league. The Argentine footballer scored his 35th treble. Ronaldo had done it 34 times.
