Rohit Sharma excited for La Liga partnership: Reacting to his appointment as La Liga’s brand ambassador in India, Rohit Sharma on Thursday said that he was excited for the Spanish league’s partnership. In a Tweet, Sharma said that football always held a special place in his heart and becoming La Liga’s face was so humbling. Sharma also shared his picture with the La Liga trophy and holding a bat in his hands.
La Liga also made an announcement and posted Sharma’s picture on the official Twitter handle. Here, he could be seen holding a bat with one hand and football with another. He has become the first non-footballer to become La Liga’s face in a country where a large number of people support the Spanish league system. Most of them either support Barcelona or Real Madrid, the top two teams of La Liga.
Sharma has been a fan of La Liga. In 2018, ahead of the FIFA World Cup, he had shared a picture wearing Spanish jersey. La Liga’s Managing Director, Antonio Cachaza, said that Sharma was an ardent fan of the Spanish league, besides being the most renowned player in India. The opener is also the second top batsman in the ODIs, after India skipper Virat Kohli.
Meanwhile, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the top two teams in this season’s La Liga. Lionel Messi-led Barca won 11 games out of 15. While Real Madrid won 10 matches out of 15. Sevilla, Real Sociedad are at the third and fourth spots, respectively. Espanyol is at the bottom of the table, winning just two games out of 16.
Messi is the top performer in this season, scoring 12 goals including a hat-trick. With his 35th treble, the Argentine footballer also surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo who had scored 34 hat-tricks in La Liga. Earlier, Messi won his sixth Ballon d’Or, overtaking Juventus star Ronaldo.
