Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of T20I: Shikhar Dhawan, who had made comeback in the recently-concluded India vs Australia ODI series after remaining out for a couple of months, has once again been ruled out of the upcoming series against New Zealand. It means that he will not be featured in the five-match T20I and three-match ODI series against the Kiwis at their home, reports said.
This came after Dhawan sustained a shoulder injury during the final game against Aaron Finch-led side in Bangalore on last Sunday, January 19. The left-handed batsman, who scored 74 and 96 in the first and second matches, respectively, injured his left shoulder while fielding.
He could not start India’s innings in that game as he was taken to get scans done. It was KL Rahul who opened with Rohit Sharma in the decider. He also could not field after hurting himself. In the second ODI, he was also hit by a Pat Cummins’ bouncer on the rib.
Meanwhile, India have not named the 34-year-old cricketer’s replacement for the upcoming away matches. Speculations are rife that the BCCI is likely to name Sanju Samson as Dhawan’s replacement for the T20Is. The wicketkeeper-batsman was not included in the team after finding his place in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Names of Mayank Agarwal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Prithvi Shaw are also doing rounds as Dhawan’s replacement in the shortest format.
India and New Zealand will play their first T20I on Friday, January 24 at Eden Park in Auckland. It will be followed by the second game on January 26, third on January 29, fourth on January 31 and final game on February 02. The ODI series will begin from February 05 to February 11. India will also play two-match Test series starting from February 22 to March 04.
