The BCCI has announced a 16-member squad for India’s upcoming New Zealand tour on Sunday. The series is going to start from January 24 but before that the selection has been doing rounds due to some decisions that the selectors been taken.
The top bone of contention has been- why Sanju Samson has not been given a place in the squad. We all know that Rishbah Pant has been given chances for last 12 months or so but the Delhi batsman rarely could impress the fans and mostly failed to live up to the expection of the selectors. Sanju Samson was given a chance in Pune T20I after 4 years of his debut where the Kerala batsman failed to make anything big. He hit a six in the very ball but was removed in the next ball.
It is understandabe that there is a lagjam going on in the middle order. For opening slot, there is a fight between a fit Dhawan, who made a useful 52 in the last T20I after coming back from injury and KL Rahul, who is currently holding a top form. Another fight will be between Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadav. Both has played soem smart innings lately and trying hard to get the no 5 or no 6 spot.
Selectors could use KL as a wicketkeepr but they seemed to be reluctant to play him in that position. So, now the question comes that what really stopped the selectors from giving another chance to 25-year-old Sanju Samson? What is Plan B if Pant doesn’t work against the black Caps. There is many questions remained unanswered after this selection.
Fans, on the other hand, looked angry after BCCI announced a confusing squad late last night. Here is some example of how they’d reacted on social media:
