Defending champion Chennai City FC is set to take on debutants TRAU FC at Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore on Sunday. On matchday 2 of the I-League 2019-20 mighty Chennai City FC will have the burden of expectations from the fans as they lifted the trophy last time. On the other hand, TRAU FC is appearing in the league for the first club. The club made its debut in I-League 2nd Division in 2017-18 and won the 2nd division of the I-League in the 2018-19 season.

Chennai City will miss some of their key players of last season including Nestor Benitez, Tarif Akhand, and Edwin Sydney Vanspaul. However, the defending champions had an impressive pre-season in Bangladesh’s Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup.

The Chennai City will look to utilize the experience of former East Bengal-Mohun Bagan player Katsumi Yusa. The Japanese midfielder had played with NEROCA FC in the last season. Chennai City’s Spanish quartet, that includes defender Roberto Eslava, midfielder Adolfo Miranda, Sandro and star forward and golden boot winner Pedro Manzi, can prove crucial in their campaign in this season.

Chennai City FC captain, Pedro Manzi said this season will be more difficult than the previous one as they have built a new and younger squad and many players have no experience in the league. He added the team has been reinforced and is stronger than last season. Manzi said they worked hard for almost 4 months in the pre-season campaign and looking forward to defending the title.

TRAU FC, on the other hand, is being considered as one of the most unpredictable sides this season. They have qualified for the first division this season for the first time and moreover, the club had been founded just two years ago.
