Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal on Sunday told the media that Argentinian star Lionel Messi is in talks with them and a new contract is likely to be signed soon. The star striker has been hitting the nets for 18 years for Barca. There were reports in the staring of the year that Messi may leave the Camp Nou at the end of any season. Messi is under contract with the La Liga champions until 2021, but Abidal indicated towards fresh terms that may be signed soon.
Abidal said that talks are already on but the good news will only be announced after discussing it with the player. Sharing club’s stand, he said everything is sorted. He added that he is hoping for everything positive. Messi has been spreading its magic from the age of 17 and has struck over 600 goals in 698 games. He clinched almost every title for his side including a club-record 34 trophies off which 10 were La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Champions Leagues and 4 Copa del Reys cups.
Since 2005, Messi has extended his contract 8 time and his recent deal with Barca was signed in 2017. Reports said he is the highest-paid La Liga player with a contract of €580,000 a week. The agreement also includes a hefty €700 million release fee clause. His contract also allows him to play outside Europe at the end of any season.
