In a high-voltage encounter of the Premier League between Manchester United and Liverpool on Monday, the Red Devils were charged for angrily shouting and misbehaving and with an official. Man Utd. goalie David de Gea and Virgil van Dijk locked horns before the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervened.
The on field-drama happened in the 26th minute of the match when the ball was kicked high in the air in Manchester United’s right-hand side corner and De Gea was trying to save the nets and catch the ball but Liverpool center-half allegedly pushed him. The video footage shows the same that both the players had body contact resulting in the ball going free. The Man Utd. kept on passing the ball and Roberto Firmino hit the ball in the nets but Red Devils claimed it a foul.
De Gea and his mates then lost the cool and got engaged in an argument with the on-field referee Craig Pawson object the decision to let play go on.
The referee, at that time, showed him a Yellow card but after the VAR stepped in, it was proved that Man Utd. Center half Van Dijk had fouled while jumping in front of Liverpool goalie De Gea.
The incident divided people among supporters and critics. Some said it was a bad example of sportsmanship, while some argued that players were there to win.
However, it was a 2-0 win for Liverpool but it ended with FA stepping in and reviewing Man Utd.’s actions.
