After waiting for more than 2 months in the dug out, Sanju Samson finally got his chance on Friday in the 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka. Sanju was promoted up the order after Dhawan’s wicket and the 25 year old started his innings with a six over long off boundary against Lakshan Sandaka, this shot took Indian captain Virat Kohli by a surprise and he applauded the youngster from the dugout.
However, Samson got dismissed on the next ball he faced as Hasranga got him LBW. The crowd was stunned at the MCA Stadium in Pune as they were expecting a blistering knock from the youngster. After winning the 2nd T20I, Indian skipper Virat Kohli finally gave much awaited chance to the youngster in the 3rd and final T20I of the series. Although, Samson got out cheaply but he deserves many more chances like Rishabh Pant to show his worth on the field.
Sanju Samson played his 1st T20I back in 2015 against Zimbabwe in Harare, after the debut, it took almost four and a half year for him to get back in the blue jersey. With the kind of talent that the youngster posses, he will surely be one of the finest wicket-keeper batsmen in the world. He has already showcased his talent in the domestic cricket where he smashed a double hundred in the Vijay Hazare trophy.
The competition between Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant would definitely be there for getting a slot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
The Indian cricket team have posted a total of 202 in 20 overs thanks to the small cameo of Shardul Thakur at the end. It would be important to whether India clinch the series 2-0 or Sri Lanka levels it.
