Virender Sehwag questioned Indian team management why Risabh Pant is missing from the squad if he is really a match-winner. The former India opener also said it is important that the skipper and seniors of the team talk to the youngster when he is being dropped.
Virender Sehwag said that how will the Delhi keeper score runs if he has been left out of the squad. He also added that even Sachin Tendulkar won’t be able to prove his capability if he is being dropped.
The 41-year-old former opener said during his time skipper used to have a brief conversation but he doubted if the practice is still on in the Virat Kohli-era.
Pant, who was touted as MS Dhoni’s successor in the Indian team has been given quite a few opportunities but failed to live up to the expectations. He was criticised by the cricket pundits for his careless batting as well. Sanju Samson, another contender for the wicketkeeper-batsman spot was also given chance a few times but failed to make it big.
KL Rahul, on the other hand, came up with his strong performance in the white-ball cricket. Whenever the Karnataka batsman was given chance for the wicket-keeper batsman spot, he never disappointed the captain. Rahul was replaced Pant in the second ODI against Australia when the latter picked up an injury. However, Rahul has been impressive with the wicketkeeping duties so far. Notably, in the fourth T20I against New Zealand when team India rested Rohit Sharma, the team management included Sanju Samson in the playing XI while it was expected that the Delhi-based Pant will be given an opportunity.
