US President Donald Trump mocks Greta Thunberg: US President Donald Trump on Thursday mocked Greta Thunberg after Time magazine named her Person of the Year for 2019. In a tweet, Trump said that awarding Time magazine’s annual honorific to the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist was ridiculous. He said that Thunberg must work on her anger management problem and go to an old fashioned movie with a friend.
Though Thunberg did not directly respond to Trump’s remarks, she changed her Twitter bio, which reads: A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.
The 73-year-old Republican president had earlier targetted Thunberg after her criticism to the world leaders for failing to take steps to stop climate change. In September, the US president retweeted a video of Thunberg in which she could be seen angrily denouncing the world leaders. Trump had responded in a tweet: How dare You?
The US president also claimed that the Swedish activist was looking for a wonderful future. Thunberg had responded in the same way she did today. She had changed the Twitter bio copying Trump’s words, reading: A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.
In 2016, the Time magazine had named Trump Person of the Year after he became the 45th US president, defeating Hillary Clinton, a Democrat.
Meanwhile, the social media users particularly blue tick holders came down heavily on Trump for posting insulting remarks against Thunberg. Here are a few reactions:
A twitter user said: Greta must work on her anger management problem? Are you serious? I can’t believe Trump is this petty, dumb, and blackhearted to bully a 16-year-old kid out of pure jealousy that she made the cover of Time Magazine for Person of the Year over him. Trump needs to deal with it.
A twitter user said: “You should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it,” Melania Trump on checks notes Pamela Karlan. #BeBest
Another user said: There are no words for Trump taking to twitter to bully and harass 16 year old Greta Thunberg who simply is advocating we address climate change. This is the perfect example of Trump’s cruelty and is as vile as Trump mocking Dr. Christine Ford at his rally for laughs.
