Shivam Dube, a 26-year-old Bowling all-rounder from Mumbai made his debut in the T20 internationals against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. After failing to impress in the first two T20I against Bangladesh, Dube displayed his bowling skills in the last match where he took 3 wickets and gave away 30 runs in his quota of four overs. The young bowling allrounder got selected for the T20I series against West Indies.
On December 8, In the 2nd T20I against West Indies, Indian skipper Virat Kohli promoted Shivam Dube on the third position. Shivam Dube arrived at the crease after KL Rahul departed after scoring 11, the youngster struggled a bit in the early phase of his innings. Soon after Dube’s arrival, Rohit Sharma departed on a score of 15. India was two down when Dube started attacking Windies bowlers. He kept the scoreboard going and didn’t let the run rate to go down.
Shivam smashed three consecutive sixes in the ninth over bowled by West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard. The crowd at the Greenfield International Stadium was on their feet as the left-hander kept banging the op[postion bowlers. Dube made a significant contribution of 54 runs in just 30 balls that helped the Indian team to reach 170 run mark.
Shivam Dube after India’s innings mentioned that it was a team’s plan to send him at the number 3 position. He also said that he was struggling with his timing in the starting as he was trying to hit the ball hard but later decided to rely on his timing.
This innings would definitely give selectors thought of keeping Shivam in the squad for the T20I World Cup 2020 which will be played in Australia. However, its too early to judge him as the youngster has to prove a lot in the future.
